Diving into the Film Industry
If you have decided that you are going to take the dive and enter the chaotic, fun, rewarding world of filmmaking, it is important to get rid of as much resistance to your goal as possible. The most typical form of resistance is debt. The film industry doesn’t pay well initially; in fact, your first few jobs may be for no cost. Therefore, if you have debt, you will be eaten alive. It was 3 years after I made a decision that I wanted to pursue a career in film that I took my first job. It is not simple to work on a boring job just to eliminate my debts, but I need to take care of this problem first before I can follow my dream. If the purpose why you are pursuing in a career in the film industry is because you love making movies rather than to earn money, then you now have a leverage over your competitors. Believe it or not, people in the film industry turn out to be slaves to their work just like everybody else.
They find themselves in a position where they are forced to take jobs in order to pay their charges. On the other hand, those who are able to make their choices when it comes to projects have the chance to not only get work but also to accept job offers that will help boost their careers. Before you end up trapped with no choice, you may want to spend enough time to nurture this kind of freedom first. Get rid of your debts by paying it off and then find a way to generate a passive income for oneself.
If you are a creative person this advice will not seem sexy, but it will free you to be able to pursue your passion the way most people dream of their whole lives. I love the film industry because it acts like a small-sized, super-charged economy. The film industry is ever changing because film professionals do not work on a certain task for more than three months or one year. Each movie is an entrepreneurial endeavor with so much motion and turmoil, things tend to happen at light speed.
You can succeed in the film industry almost immediately, a whole lot shorter compared with the overall economy. However, it is not sufficient to possess creativity only. You have to be an entrepreneur. This means that you have to learn some business skills to put your ideas to reality. Entrepreneurs have learned to get better at the creative/logical duality in their own minds. Most people that are creative are great at coming up with ideas, but the fall short in terms of logical skills.
